A Playful Home with Vicky Nordh

In a charming courtyard apartment in the heart of Malmö, PR consultant Vicky Nordh lives with her husband and their two sons, Leo and baby Louis. A home full of personality, layered with patterns, colour and playful details. We visited Vicky to talk about her interior style, making room for play, and the family’s first experiences with MODU.

What’s important to you when creating a home for you and your family?

To me, it’s important that different parts of the home each have their own atmosphere. I’m very drawn to colours and patterns, and I love having beautiful things to rest my eyes on—it just makes the space feel more warm and inviting. It’s also been important for us to create a nice room for Leo, a little space of his own where he feels at home with all his things.

What is a 'playful' home to you?

A good mix of good stuff.

How do you incorporate play into your home?

Leo is free to play however he wants at home. If he wants to build something out of a big cardboard box, we let him. We want him to play as much as possible. This phase in life, when play is everything, is so short. So we just want him to enjoy it fully, wherever and whenever he likes. With that said, when the day or play is over, we want him to clean up and organise his things.

How does MODU fit into this?

Leo loves building—everything from LEGO, to big forts, so MODU is a perfect fit for him. Sometimes we deliberately avoid giving him the inspiration booklet, and honestly, that’s when he plays best. He’s come up with all kinds of creative builds that aren’t in the booklet, and that’s when you really see his imagination take off.

What’s currently your favorite way to play with MODU, and how do you utilize the toy’s various functions in everyday life?

We’ve built the armchair several times for reading sessions. Leo sits in it while we sit on the floor and read to him. I really love how MODU can be both a toy and something functional to use around the house whenever needed.
